Yes, a pet would likely help with depression recovery. A small dog is likely the best choice. As long as you have the money and time to be able to care for the pet, it could really help to have a companion in your life.
Dogs are wonderful friends and great companion animals.
Cats are nice, but mostly solitary.

IT IS A PROVEN FACT THAT IT DOES, BUT ARE YOU WELL ENOUGH TO TAKE CARE OF THE PET RESPONSIBLY.
I HATE TO SAY ,BUT A CAT IS PROBABLY WHAT YOU NEED–LOW MAINTENANCE AS FAR AS EXERCISE,BUT THEN AGAIN WALKING IS VERY THERAPEUTIC IN ITS OWN RIGHT.

Hell yeah, man!
Serious, they’re awesome for companionship and friendliness – - – IF you get the right kind.
Let me tell you tho – Dogs are the best choice… cats just mind their own business and really couldn’t care less about you as long as they’re fed and warm and dry. Dogs actively want to play and are interested in doing stuff with you and like interacting with people.
And other animals, although neat and fun, are either very hard to train, or just honestly aren’t intelligent enough to really connect with.
RESEARCH it first. Don’t spend months…there is such a thing as overanalysing something, and you don’t want to be afraid to make a decision and 2nd guess yourself for the next 3 weeks. But some breeds ARE MORE TRAINABLE and LOYAL and FRIENDLY than other breeds.
But YES, dogs would be a HUGE asset to recovering from depression. just make sure to utilize them to their fullest potential – Take them for walks and play with them often. Let them sleep on your bed. etc… Remember, pets take after their owners!

Animals are the best. Please rescue one from a shelter, that way, there are two lives that will be saved! It will take your mind off stuff because there will be someone that is depending on you for it’s survival. I can not live without animals. Better yet, go volunteer at the local humane society, that is what me and my boyfriend do. Some of those animals NEED human interaction, plus you will do something that WILL make you feel better about life. Trust me, I have been there. Good luck.

Having the unconditional love of pet is a marvelous thing!! I live alone with 2 cats, & I would not try to live without pets. It can be the most horrible day, but when I come in the door, the kitties are there talking to me, telling me about their day, begging for a cuddle, wanting to play. How can you stay down?? I also have been depressed for years. I’m on meds which are helping a lot, but there were times before drugs when i thought about suicide but always ruled it out because there was no one to take my babies. Indirectly they probably saved my lives. When I have a (rare) lonely spell, I think about how much they do for me every day with no ulterior motives. To me, pets are the most imprtant part of combatting depresssion. Go & get yourself some love!! You won’t regret it.
