Each time I have a massage my back and neck become swollen. I get a massage at my chiropractor once a month. She said it is quite normal, and to just take it easy the rest of the day and all will be fine.

Yes it is normal because the injured area have a truma, therefore it is not advisable to massage the injured area

It’s probably because blood flow to the area has increased as the result of the massage opening up blood vessels and relaxing the muscles.
Man, I could use a massage right now….

If it happens, you should apply a cold pack to help the swelling go down.

Yes, because of the increased blood flow. Take it easy for a few hours, stay off your feet & keep them elevated if the ijured area is on the legs or feet. If the swelling doesn’t go away or becomes worse ice first. If that doesn’t work call your Dr.

Yes it is normal for it to become inflamed a little bit…especially if you are injured already and if you are not used to getting a massage. Next time tell the masseuse not to rub so hard.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. I have many patients with injuries but I never massage an injured area, it makes the condition worse. That is standard practice. i would find another therapist, this one doesn’t know what she/he’s doing.
