Psychiatry Drugs Foster Care Children – Elnita

I took my video camera to a Foster Care Alumni meeting and asked seven foster kids to tell me about there experiences in Child Protective Services while wards of the state.

One thing they all had in common was massive over drugging with psychiatric drugs.

Child placement agencies, foster parents, RTCs (Residential Treatment Centers) and Therapeutic Foster Homes get paid a certain amount of money each day for taking care of a foster child. The amount of money they get paid depends on a level of care system. The more difficult the child or the more problems that child has, the more money you get.

A child at the basic level of care is worth about 17 dollars a day where as a child in the highest level of care could be worth as much as a 1000 dollars a day. This puts the incentive on diagnosing children with behavior problems to justify raising their level of care. A child on psychiatric drugs is worth more than a child without problems.

It is not uncommon for a foster child to be placed on many different psychotropic drugs at the same time. Some investigations have found children on as many as 13 mind altering drugs prescribed by a psychiatrists at one time.

These drugs include all categories of psychiatric drugs; antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, anxiety medications, anticonvulsants medications, etc.

The SSRI drugs are commons such as Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, etc. Also a number of these children described taking Risperdal, Zyprexa, Geodon and other new generation antipsychotics which have been linked to weight gain, obesity and diabetes.

Can’t figure out how to work out half-life?

May 72010

Iodine is used in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for the treatment of thyroid disorders. This isotope has a half life of 8.04 days. What percentage of an initial sample of I 131-51 is left after 30.0 days?

For radioactivity, the amount left after a specific time is given by the formula
N = No exp(-t / tau), where tau is the mean lifetime of an atom. We can either calculate tau or use an equivalent formula that uses half life. I’ll do that.
N = No exp(-t / tau) = No 2^(-t / t_1/2)
N / No = 2^(-30 / 8.04) = 0.0753

Converting this to a percentage, the answer is 7.53%

Why is Therapeutic Touch still considered a serious form of treatment?

May 42010

How is it that Therapeutic Touch is still considered scientifically valid when so much research has discounted it? The vast majority of well~controlled, peer~reviewed, and properly conducted empirical studies demonstrate that both the stated intended effectiveness of TT and its fundamental basis (being able to sense and manipulate "energy fields" in another human being) are either non~existent or are not empirically demonstrable. Furthermore, why are the arguments in support of TT consistently full of scientific errors and falsehoods reflecting a lack of scientific understanding of molecular biology and energy and electromagnetism?

Please don’t get offended by the question. If the veritable saturation of studies discrediting TT happens to be wrong, then why is it wrong? If those studies are wrong, then you shouldn’t be offended by my question.

This would be some very dirty attempt of an pagan to commit an act of religious blasphemy, if it wouldn’t be obvious it is just another provocation coined by the enemy forces.

Are you actually calling the TT work of the Jesus Christ as non existent and fraudulent?

By the way – the word "empirically demonstrable" is betraying you and your colors.

Nice try Skeptics!

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Cerebral Palsy

April 302010

http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/products.html

Finding the right therapeutic treatment for your child can be confusing and overwhelming. Modern medicine presents you numerous options, some of them unorthodox. But its important to keep an open mind.

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment is a form of therapy that some say resembles science fiction. It involves your child (or both of you together) sitting in a pressurized air chamber while pure oxygen is administered at a controlled pressure.

HBO treatments usually last from 60 to 90 minutes per session. Your child may have more than one session in a day. The total number of sessions will vary, but its common for treatment to start at 40 sessions over the course of several weeks.

In studies, increased oxygen intake and tissue saturation has shown promising results for children with brain injuries:

* Improved breathing
* New blood vessel growth
* Decreased swelling and inflammation
* Deactivation of toxins
* Strengthened immune system

If brain damage caused your childs cerebral palsy, hyperbaric oxygen treatment is worth investigating.

People with scoliosis? Should i get this treatment?

April 222010

ok so i have moderate scoliosis (about 35 degrees on the top and bottom curves) and i kinda want to get this treatment but it is kinda expensive. i kno you dont need surgery untill your curves are 40 degrees but i still want my back corrected. the treatment i want is a the Clear Institution it is a therapeutic treatment and i think it really works and is not a scam cuz the person i emailed was very knowledgable and helpful and they sent me a info packet and stuff. anyways i dont know if i should try to convince my parents to let me get the treatment or not since it is so expensive. i dont want to waste their money but i also dont want my scoliosis to get worse and i DONT want surgery. if you have scoliosis do you think that 35 degrees is a reasonable curve to get fixed? also what do you think i should do? thanks !

I have Scoliosis with a degree of 36 which is very similar to yours. I went with the brace treatment. It has really helped me and been successful for me. That is my experience with this treatment. ATM2 (Active Therapeutic Movements) – Low Back Pain – LONG VERSION (See Shorter Version)

April 212010

Overview of the ATM2: Treatment is a combined clinician/patient effort to manage and control musculoskeletal pain. It involves personalized body repositioning for finding unique, pain-free position for each user using a series of compressive belts in a weight bearing functional position. Once this position is found, the systems stabilize the patient allowing specific neuromuscular training based on body movement isolation that aims to achieve and sustain immediate pain reduction, increase range of motion, and improve function. The theory behind the system involves providing specific external compression to the pelvis and spine so the central nervous system realizes it no longer has to maintain a stabilized spine utilizing the global trunk muscles any longer; external force is imparted so these global muscles can relax. Once this is achieved, it allows for the spinal core muscles to be emphasized through a series of isometric contractions in the movement direction that was previously painful. With subsequent sessions, the spinal core muscles are being trained and over time strengthened to allow for spinal stabilization via the appropriate muscle group which are within the spine itself (i.e., multifidi). The ATM2 is based upon Physical Therapy Principles, primarily that of Brian Mulligan procedures. Our web site provides testimonials of other patients who are having success with the ATM2 where they hadnt had success previously. (see www.ProPTRehab.com)
