Biology question, please help?

Discuss how the use of molecular techniques to identify easily the alleles of particular genes that an individual carries can improve the use of therapeutic drugs.

Drugs usually act on proteins. Each allele of gene produces a different form of protein. As such, a drug may work better (or only) on the product of one allele and not another. Testing which allele the person carries for that gene will ensure that the drug being used can target it effectively.

There are many cases where this is indicated – look up Pharmacogenomics to get more detail than you could ever want to know aobut on this topic.

Have you ever experienced any of these massages?? PLEASE ANSWER!?

April 202010

For mother’s day, I’m treating my mom to a 3-day getaway to Paradise Point Hotel and I want to make reservations at the spa. but I have no idea which one of these to get….Please help! Have you ever experienced any of these massages?? These are the ones I’m going for:
Abhyanga Massage
A therapeutic massage which blends traditional Ayurvedic massage with European techniques. Abhyanga literally translates to “oil massage.” This rhythmic and deeply relaxing hot oil massage helps to activate the “prana” or life force which stimulates your body’s vital energy. 50 minutes

Sacred Stone Massage
Surrender to the healing warmth of this ancient massage. Heated volcanic river stones penetrate the deeper layers of your muscles to take you to a new dimension of relaxation.

Balinese Massage
Be transformed by our signature massage ritual, based on the traditions of Bali. A combination of acupressure, rolling motions and rhythmic strokes relieves tension and promotes total relaxation.
Swedish Massage
Unwind with this gentle, relaxing massage that improves circulation and vitality. Pressure can range from very light to medium.

And also, I’m thinking of getting one of these two as an extra:
Ancient Indian Scalp Massage
Drift away as all the nerves in your body are soothed through the stimulation of points over the head during this hot oil treatment and massage for the head and scalp.

African Shea-Butter Scalp & Hair Treatment
Promote healthy hair with these nourishing ingredients. This treatment should be used prior to shampooing and is best left in for three
Please comment!

can I come with her? I had no idea there were so many choices for a massage. Your mama is one lucky woman!! They all sound good after a long day at work but the first one sounds the best to me. The words "50 minutes" and "hot oil massage" in the same sentence gave me the shivers!

What is the most efficient way to begin practicing Pilates?

April 162010

Recently, I’ve taken up an interest in Pilates. I love that it not only provides a workout, but also that its therapeutic and stresses the importance of focusing, breathing techniques and circulation. The only other exercise that provided those things and got me in the best shape of my life was when I was a swimmer in high school and when I swam in the military (I don’t have the feet for running). However, I don’t have a pool now and the health club pools are expensive and seasonal. Anyway, back to pilates. My fiance is not comfortable with the price of pilates studios or with the price of the equipment. I don’t feel comfortable with simply getting a video because this is all new to me and I want to take it seriously and be properly trained. Does the less expensive equipment (such as the chairs and barrels) provide similar benefits as the reformer, trapeze and "cadillac"? Can someone get the same benefits without any equipment? Are the videos just as good? I need some educated direction :) Thank you!

go to a library n ask the librarian for a beginners book! that’s prob. the best way too see oif you like it or not… if u do like it order videos online!!

The Biography of Sigmund Freud Part 5 of 5

April 152010

http://www.luxstock.net
Sigmund Freud (IPA: [ˈziːkmʊnt ˈfʁɔʏt]), born Sigismund Schlomo Freud (6 May 1856 23 September 1939), was an Austrian psychiatrist who founded the psychoanalytic school of psychology.[1] Freud is best known for his theories of the unconscious mind and the defense mechanism of repression and for creating the clinical practice of psychoanalysis for curing psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. Freud is also renowned for his redefinition of sexual desire as the primary motivational energy of human life, as well as his therapeutic techniques, including the use of free association, his theory of transference in the therapeutic relationship, and the interpretation of dreams as sources of insight into unconscious desires. He was also an early neurological researcher into cerebral palsy. While of significant historical interest, many of Freud’s ideas have fallen out of favor or have been modified by Neo-Freudians, although in the past ten years, advances in the field of neurology have shown evidence for many of his theories. Freud’s methods and ideas remain important in clinical psychodynamic approaches. In academia his ideas continue to influence the humanities and some social sciences.

how many people you know wants to learn the art of massage, foot reflex, pre/post natal..? ?

April 122010

Massage is a beautiful technique to express owner’s love to their partners. With proper knowledge it could be very therapeutic for everyone in the family. Foot reflex is a good way to "revive" all our internal organs to a healthy state. It could be very expensive to go spas for above services. Pre & post natal massage is the best way for a husband to give to his wife & that will further strengthens their bonding love to their unborn-ed child…

I wanted to know so I did. Soon I will be teaching infant massage classes for mothers. But I’ve already learned all the massage you mentioned, and then some. But I agree with you that it is so good for your family!

Cupping Therapy
This is an ancient therapy used by many cultures for thousands of years. It was employed in the Western hospitals, as well as the East (for further reading look: Cupping Therapy by Ilkay Zihni Chirali. ISBN: 0443 06038X).

Cupping therapy involves introducing a flame into a glass, bamboo or a china cup, which will rid of oxygen and create a vacuum. This action is followed by the practitioner rapidly turning the cup on to the desired location. Depending on the energetic condition of the patient, the practitioner can then decide from ten different types of cupping methods, which will be the most suitable method for that patient. Bruising, up to fifteen days can appear following the treatment. However, not all cupping methods causes bruising, only some do. Children as well as adults can benefit from cupping therapy.

Therapies That Benefit from Cupping
Generally speaking, most of the hands-on therapeutic techniques can include Cupping in their therapy. The ultimate aim of all hands-on techniques is to use physical application in order to stimulate the body’s natural healing powers by balancing the physical, mental and emotional energies and restore health to the individual. Therapies such as Aromatherapy, Massage, Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Kinesiology, Alexander Technique, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Polarity and Physiotherapy, can all incorporate Cupping in their main treatment model.

Which technique is used to culture human stem cells for use in treating medical disorders?

April 102010

a.) Differentiation
b.) Gene therapy
c.) Reproductive cloning
d.) Therapeutic cloning

d.) therapeutic cloning followed by a) differentiation.

If you are supposed to choose only one answer, go with d); nevertheless, I would say the question is flawed in that b) , d), and d) are types of therapies named by purpose whereas a) is a developmental process.

What is Cupping Therapy?
Cupping is an ancient Chinese method of causing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction. This draws up the underlying tissues. When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis is formed and localized healing takes place.
Cupping therapy has been further developed as a means to open the ‘Meridians’ of the body. Meridians are the conduits in the body through which energy flows to every part of the body and through every organ and tissue. There are five meridians on the back that, when opened, allow invigorating energy to travel the whole length of the body. It has been found that cupping is probably the best way of opening those meridians.
Cupping has also been found to affect the body up to four inches into the tissues, causing tissues to release toxins, activate the lymphatic system, clear colon blockages, help activate and clear the veins, arteries and capillaries, activate the skin, clear stretch marks and improve varicose veins. Cupping is the best deep tissue massage available. Cupping, the technique, is very useful and very safe and can be easily learned and incorporated into your family health practices.
Now plastic cups based on the traditional cups by applying the traditional cupping therapy together with the magnetic therapy. The new cups have done away with the traditional firing. This has made the application of the cups more easily and safely. It has a good penetrating effect and a big drawing strength. It has not only improved efficacy but also simplified the procedures of cupping therapy.
The improved plastic cups for ancient Chinese cupping therapy are now available for supply. They are easier to be handled and safer to be used for self-treatment at home. In China, the new cups are very popular for family cupping treatment.
