A question about cosmetology? It’s about skin care?

March 242010

I have asked this a while back but I just wanna make sure. Okay, so I want to go to this beauty school. They have two educational programs; Cosmetology and Esthetics. I want to go for Cosmetology. They say in the Cosmetology program that they perform "esthetics such as skin treatments and makeup application", but I think they only do facials and that’s it. :S While in the Esthetics page, they say how they teach you about advanced facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser and light therapy, mask therapy, non-therapeutic massage, tweezing, waxing and makeup application.

Do cosmetologists do all that above? Or do they just clean the skin and that’s it? Thank you!

They do all of the above. Cosmetology is EVERYTHING but massage. They are licensed to do skin(Along with hair and nails). They may not focus much on Skin, But they learn how to do everything a esthetican does(Facials, make up, wax, They teach you about skin diseases,.etc). They may not get into it like the Esthetics course, as it’s more about hair…But in school and after you graduate, You can take extra classes taught by licensed people in Skin, or Whatever… What the person above me says is completely stupid, especially the "they suck" and "Never trusting them with your skin" part. If a cosmetologist wants nothing to do with skin, Then they won’t have anything to do with skin. If they want something to do with skin, They will take classes that are available to them for skin. and LEARN EVERYTHING THAT A LICENSED ESTHETICIAN CAN DO.

So all in all, If you want to do hair, or nails, and skin. Or all three. The Cosmetology course is good for you..Or if you want to do Skin, Then the Esthetics course would be for you. .You will want to keep yourself educated no matter what you do because things and technique changes in Skin, hair or nails…

Cosmetology programs which are normally about 1200 – 1600 hours in length will only go into basic skin treatments, where the Esthetics program will be more in-depth.
In cosmetology training, you will learn fundamentals of:
facials
masks
makeup application

Most of the other stuff in Cosmetology is centered around hair care.

a question about Massage Therapy.?

March 202010

How do people feel about massage therapy. I have just recently become a Registered Massage Therapist and I have high regard for the profession and the benefits of therapeutic massage. How do most people feel about this profession? I would like to know. Positive and negative responses are welcome.

I think it’s great. I love a good massage. A friend of mine is a massage therapist and she specializes in massage for people who participate in sports. She has a lot of clients. Of course, she has to put up with smirking by people who have seen classified ads for the "other" kind of massage therapy, but she just ignores that. Massage therapy is a good profession with many benefits.

Healing Hands?…….?

March 162010

I’m just curious maybe….but the techniques used like stroking, and pummelling, twisting, and massaging are uesd in both orthodox, and unorthodox therapies, i know for sure that touch is very therapeutic anyway but can a person really heal another’s ailments through touch?……and has it been proved?

Yes it has. It’s so funny, I just did a presentation for my subject of physiotherapy. My topic was ‘Massage Therapy’.
Massage has many diverse physiological effects, which are primarily due to the therapist’s hands moving over the body. The different movements can physically stretch muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia, encourage the circulation through the tissue, inhibit muscular spasms and be either sedating or stimulating to the nervous system.
I mean imagine it, it has been around for ages, in ancient times in Egypt, in ancient Chinese and Indian medicine, and they are still widely practised all over the world nowadays.
It is also believed that every human being in this earth has a inborn longing to touch. To feel another human’s skin on your. So you could say that massage therapy both has therapeutic effects mentally and physically.

What is style in writing and making a piece of written english flow?

March 142010

I ger critised for it being clumsy and not flowing

This is from my essay on a beauty and aromatherapy course

"May possibly look at the use of complementary practises as they have been shown to be beneficial in assisting the reduction of stress students from the local college have expressed an interest in practising aromatherapy massage on volunteers to gain experience for themselves surely this is a win win scenario and such co ordination would come with in the remit of the post. Complementary alternative therapies are rarely regarded as having a role in therapeutic healthcare environments but, as people become exposed to them, they may regard them as beneficial to their wellbeing and so on are resulting in increased health " This is part of a 2500 word essay
Please can I have help in writing style

Your sentence structure isn’t consistent, and you use to many qualifiers in describing some things. I know that sounds like "umm…what" but I’ll give you an example:

"May possibly look at the use of complementary practises as they have been shown to be beneficial in assisting the reduction of stress…"

"May possibly" is redundant. You only need to use "May" or "possibly" but not both.

you can drop the word "been" and the words "in assisting the" and change reduction to "reducing"

I think this is what your paragraph should look like.

May look at the use of complementary practices as they have been shown to be beneficial in reducing stress. Students from the local college have expressed an interest in practicing aromatherapy massage on volunteers to gain experience for themselves. Surely, this is a win-win scenario as such co-ordination would come with a remit of the post.(not sure what a remit of the post is, you may want to be sure that is clarified better) Complementary alternative therapies are rarely regarded as having a role in therapeutic healthcare environments but, as people become exposed to them, they may regard them as beneficial to their well-being and contributing to increased health "
