am i being realistic ?

April 42010

Ive only just started high school, but family and friends are making such a big deal about what I’m doing with my life, Sure my grades aren’t as good as they should be, & I’m in Applied courses, I’m cutting myself short, and like most Teenagers my age, i don’t attend classes everyday, sometimes there are days in which id just rather Stay home and Rest. My goal for the new year is to Be more responsible, I’ve made myself a plan for the future, in the beginning it consisted of staying in Canada, Take up a Part time job later this year to pay for College, Finish high school, (Stay an extra year, to get extra Credits), move into a Condo/Apartment in Burlington, go to Canadian Therapeutic College, and after my two year course, i would move to wear ever i had a Placement to work.

But i want to get as far away as i can, My father completely despises me, & is already talking about kicking me out when I’m 18, Ive done nothing to Deserve this, and they’ve done everything to loose my trust and Respect.
Im just looking at other Possibilities, and Ive come up with an Idea, If i were to go to California they have an outstanding institute to practice massage therapy, and my salary in the USA is 30x higher than my salary would be if i Worked here in Ontario.
This sounded like a good decision at first, but there is so much more to think about, when im thinking about the whole image.
first) I would most definitely have to bring a friend with me, someone i can depend on, someone i can go out with, & someone to split the rent with.
second) The rent, Not only do i have to pay for College, i have to pay for Rent, and possibly a Car
third) To go to college in the usa, you have to get Accepted, here in Canada you don’t, you just pay & learn, so there is always the Chance i don’t get accepted, seeing as my grades aren’t great and i would have a High school diploma from Canada.
forth) Immigration from Canada to Usa.

Is following my Dreams in the California, to much ? am i being Realistic?
Sorry i didnt mean to put this Question under this area *

With 100% respect.

The things you talk about all center around responsibility.

When you rent (or buy) there are things that have to be done and they must be done right. As your and your friend are out there on your own (no parents) you two will be the people responsible for everything.

Sorry my friend but the way I see it, if you cant get a simply thing like the location of a question in Yahoo Answers in the right hole, as its not the most difficult task you will be confronted with how do you expect to run your own affairs.

When living away from home, its 100% on you to see that things are done right. Parents wont be there to say its time to get out of bed, its time to clean up etc. Its not as easy as it looks and it is no way all fun and sex.

Maybe the answer to your problem is respect and gratitude. I bet your father feels you have used them. Show some respect and put in a little effort to help around home and things at home would improve.

I live in california. It’s nothing to dream of. Personally, there are way better places than here!
Of course i guess i depends on where you live.
California is too expensive, overcrowded, and has a lame government!

Is following my Dreams in the California, to much ? am i being Realistic?

You should never think of your dreams as unrealistic. Difficult? yes, hard to get? yes. But nothing’s impossible.
You already know that is gonna be hard, pay for rent, pay for college, study, work, keep your home clean, so I won’t go all over it again, I’ll tell you instead something you might not be considering.

You’re a teenager and teenagers this days seem as ungreatful as ever, you say you’re cutting, you miss school days, you don’t study hard enough, you don’t even realize it’s yourself you’re affecting, is your future you’re making difficult, no one else’s, and yet you complain about your dad, and you say "they’ve done everything to loose my trust and respect", now I don’t know what you’ve been trough, I know first hand that parents can sometimes make more damage than good, but we’re talking about you, not them (for the moment, screw them). Think of this (most sincerely, answer this question only to yourself):
What have "you" done to earn their respect and trust?. What have you done to loose their respect and trust? These two things are so precious, and you’ll realize that you don’t just "get them" you have to fight for them, not only from your relatives, you have to make an effort to be respected by your friends, school mates, co-workers, bosses, your future spouse, your own children, everyone around you.
Parents do they best they can, no one taught them how to be parents, sometimes they want to give their children freedom, fun, a good life, but in the end, children don’t learn how valuable it is to have a parent waiting for you when it’s late and you’re still out. You feel you have no respect for your parents, ok, that’s up to you, but you still live with them, you eat because of the hours they work to get some food on the table, a roof above your head, the clothes you’re wearing right now. Truth is you have no idea how much those things are worth (not talking about the price), you haven’t learned the meaning of responsability and independence, you really don’t know how to be on your own, proof is you’re saying you need a friend "to depend on" Where’s independence then?

I strongly advice you to meditate on this, you’re young, you have a home, parents who keep supporting you (no matter what they’ve said). Appreciate it! value the house you live, the clean clothes in your room everyday, life would be very difficult without them.
If you decide to stay home and fight for your parent’s respect (I’m sorry, but that’s your job) and trust, congratulations! be at home, go to college, get a job, get a career, if u still want to move to Cali, great! go on! do it
If you decide to move ASAP, good luck! you have a huge challenge in front of you. Two things can happen: You work hard, get in trouble, get yourself (YOURSELF) out of trouble, you grow up, and become a responsible adult, In that case is for sure you will realize your parents where right, and in many, many years, try to be a best parent to your own children. 2nd scenario: You try, and try, get in trouble and realize you can’t get yourself out of them, you learn that real freedom has big limits: the limit of being independet and responsible for yourself, because no one is gonna be there, it’s just you. If you fail, I hope you’re humble enough to go home and accept that you made a mistake, and start over again, with wisdom.

Being free, and independent is not as easy as it sounds.

Whatever it is you decide to do is ok, there are no wrong or right choices, the catch is: You’re gonna have to stand the consequences of your actions (for right or wrong; short and long term)
Best of luck!!!

btw, I’m 26, still live at home with mom, dad left when I was 15, i had to work to pay my way trough med school, and help my mom, even she and my sister also worked. I’m proud and happy to still be with them, we are a team, we support each other. And even though I hated both mom and dad at your age, now I’m greatful for everything they let me do, and mostly, the things they DIDN’T let me do. (Even dad thaught me to work to get my dreams, since he wasn’t there anymore)
I tell you this, so you don’t think I’m some old bittered conservative woman trying to preach on you. I’ve been where you are right now, and I hope my own experience can be useful to you.

Once again,, good luck!!!1

Is following my Dreams in the California, to much ? am i being Realistic?

I agree that the first step is going to school everyday. I know that the things that they teach in school are not always practical, but school can teach you to live and work responsibly, time management, and working with others. If you work hard in school, you will have one less thing to worry about because colleges will accept you and that gives you a million more options.

If you want to move to California, you should do it! If you do well in school, and you’re accepted to college, that would be a great place to meet some one to live with and split the rent. To help pay for school, go to your local library and ask the library where you can find information on individual grants. I wish I knew about the grants available before I started because there is SO MUCH money available for schooling and no one knows about it. You could also look at fastweb.com for interships and scholarships.

Once you get to college and feel comfortable and at home, you could broaden your horizons and social circle, while looking for work. So much possiblity lies in front of you. Work hard now and you can be rewarded for it later. Message therapists CAN make a lot of money.

According to naturalhealers.com (http://www.naturalhealers.com/) it may take between two months or two years to be an established message therapist but once you get to that point you could make as much as $180,000. I imagine that is the salary of a very lucky, very hard working therapist, but I wouldn’t mind living off half of that, even if California is expensive (which it is).

The way you’re living now doesn’t have to be the way you live the rest of your life. You will always have the choice to strive to be more. The sooner you do it, the more fulfilling your life will be. Don’t start your new life tomorrow, start it right now. That way, if your dad is still acting negativitly towards you, you will know that it is his problem not yours, and you will have your own independent life to be happy about.

You can do it! I almost failed the ninth grade and now I have a 3.75 GPA at a University. I believe in you!

I started seeing Tim Gilreath LMP, the owner of Therapeutic Approach Massage Therapy in Spokane, Washington in 2008. That was the year I started training for my first ever Ironman triathlon in Coeur d’Alene. He works in the UDistrict Physical Therapy building across from the McCarthey Athletic Center on the campus of Gonzaga University. Tim specializes in deep tissue, sports injury prevention and treatment massage.

Over training can be a source of injury regardless of your sport. That’s what started happening to me in 2008. I started having Iliotibial band friction syndrome (IT Band) on my right knee. My running was becoming painful. After just one session with Tim it was virtually gone. I continued to see him one to two times a week leading up to race day. I finished the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run in 13:07 and change.I guess the insanity of tackling an Ironman didn’t take because I signed up the very next day. I followed the same training routine designed by my coach, TIMEX Multisport Athlete, Roger Thompson and the same therapeutic approach with Tim and in 2009 I shaved off more than 30 minutes from my finish time. It goes to show you, it’s not a matter of training harder it’s about training smarter.

I’m not sure when I’ll be racing my next Ironman but when I do I’ll be sure to visit Tim. Give him a shout. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

A question about cosmetology?

March 262010

I have asked this a while back but I just wanna make sure. Okay, so I want to go to this beauty school. They have two educational programs; Cosmetology and Esthetics. I want to go for Cosmetology. They say in the Cosmetology program that they perform "esthetics such as skin treatments and makeup application", but I think they only do facials and that’s it. :S While in the Esthetics page, they say how they teach you about advanced facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser and light therapy, mask therapy, non-therapeutic massage, tweezing, waxing and makeup application.

Do cosmetologists do all that above? Or do they just clean the skin and that’s it? Thank you!

honestly its a waste of money, do u wanna be waxing peoples eyebrows for the rest of your life? and applying makeup on people making minium wage? think about it your gonna be on your feet all day doing other peopels dirty work. Get a real job that pays real money. When your hitting 40 with 5 kids that kind of job will be your biggest nightmare. Dont do it.

I also wanted to get into that but i realized its not worth it. Pick a real career that will get you a good pay check at the end of the month. Working is a pain to begin with at least once u get that big paycheck you will realize how worth it it really is.. making minimum wage hating the job u do (and u will eventually hate it when u get older) willl make u depressed and a bunch of other things..
